Courtney Love sued by fashion designer over Twitter rants

Courtney Love is being sued by a fashion designer over comments made on Twitter.

The Hole singer, who is a prolific user of Twitter, posted a series of tweets criticising fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir via her page, " target="_blank">Twitter.com/courtneyloveuk.

Love has allegedly accused Simorangkir of being a drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery who lost custody of her own child. Love wrote: "She has received a vast amount of money from me over $40,000 dollars and I do not make people famous and get raped too!"

Speaking to Thehollywoodreporter.com, Bryan Freedman, who is representing Simorangkir, admitted: "There has never been anything like this case before."

Freedman hopes to prove that Love has been defamatory towards Simorangkir and force the singer to pay her substantial compensation for damages. Love's lawyer, James Janowitz said: "We don't believe there's any defamation, and even if there were defamatory statements, there was no damage."

The trial is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on January 18.
