Paul McCartney invites Aerosmith's Steve Tyler to play Beatles songs

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has been asked by Paul McCartney to cover four songs by The Beatles for a special performance in Washington tomorrow (December 5).

Tyler will perform tracks from 1969's 'Abbey Road' at the Kennedy Centre Honors.

McCartney is set to receive a prestigious award at the ceremony, along with singer/songwriter Merle Haggard, composer Jerry Herman and TV presenter Oprah Winfrey.

"I got called up by Paul McCartney and he asked me to sing the last four songs of Abbey Road so I said 'Umm OK.' (I'm) doing it," he told American radio station 95.9 WATD-FM.

"So I'm headed down to the Kennedy honors in Washington."

Artists are awarded at the ceremony for their contribution to American culture.

In the past Bob Dylan and Elton John have been honoured.
