Duran Duran: 'Our Timbaland album was a fucking nightmare'

Duran Duran have said that the making of their 2007 album 'Red Carpet Massacre' - produced largely by Timbaland - was a "fucking nightmare".

The band told The Quietus that the pairing was their record company's idea.

Guitarist John Taylor said: "That whole project was a fucking nightmare. We delivered an album to Sony that was a natural-sounding, almost rock album and they were like, 'We need something a bit pop, do you fancy doing a couple of track with Timbaland?'"

He added: "Around the same time we fell out with Andy [Taylor, the band's former guitarist] so the Timbaland stuff sounded hugely different from what we'd done before."

Keyboardist Nick Rhodes admitted that there was a communication breakdown between the two parties.

"When Timbaland saw the guitar and the bass and the drums come in to the studio, I think he was mortified because everything’s in a box for those guys," he said. "But I'm really glad we made that album, because in time I think it will stand up."

The band recently released their new Mark Ronson-produced new album 'All You Need Is Now'.

Radiohead's Tokyo new album broadcast cancelled

Radiohead's Tokyo new album broadcast has been cancelled due to security fears.

NME understands that frontman Thom Yorke had been set to announce their new 'The King Of Limbs' record with a broadcast on Hachiko Square in Shibuya at 6:59pm (JST), which will be 9:59am UK time.

However, due to security concerns the broadcast has now been canned, reports Time Out Tokyo.

Despite the cancellation many Radiohead fans have turned up to the location expecting some kind of appearance.

Instead it is set to be shown at Thekingoflimbs.jp website at the same time. It will be be region locked so will only be available to Japanese users. It is expected to be made available worldwide at 2pm UK time.

The new album is scheduled to be released tomorrow (19). It is tipped to feature eight songs, although the band have said that they will not release tracklisting details ahead of its release.

Chris Martin: 'Coldplay's new album is about OCD and addiction'

Coldplay's Chris Martin has revealed the band's new album will be about "love, addiction [and] OCD".

Speaking to Radio 1, the frontman explained that the album, the band's fifth, will be inspired by "working for someone you don't like".

However, Martin appeared to contradict comments he made to BBC News about the album last month by denying that the band are working on a "concept album".

Discussing the album in December, he stated: "It's a concept album but it's supposed to be very personal within a big framework".

However, he has now claimed it will instead be a "thinly veiled account of what happens within the group".

"It's supposed to be about life, the good stuff and the bad stuff. Everything," Martin said.

The band have spent the past year working with Brian Eno and producer Marcus Dravs on sessions for the follow-up to 2008's 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends'.

Queens Of The Stone Age to begin recording new album 'in January'

Queens Of The Stone Age are set to begin recording a new album in January.

Keyboardist Dean Fertita revealed that the band are "ready to go" on what will be the follow-up to 2007's 'Era Vulgaris'.

"Everybody seems excited and ready to go," Fertita told Billboard. "We've got so many ideas started already; I guess we'll see what turns out to be everybody's favorite."

"It's very much still [Josh Homme's] band," he continued. "But I think all of us really feel like we've found our space in it and can contribute to it as well."

A release date and title for the group's sixth studio effort has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the band recently reissued their 1998 self-titled debut album and earlier this year also released a 10th anniversary edition of their second LP, 'Rated R'.

Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye announce debut album details

Beady Eye have named their debut album 'Different Gear, Still Speeding' and will release it on February 28.

Liam Gallagher's post-Oasis band's record will feature 13 new songs including their first single release, 'Bring The Light'. The album's artwork is pictured.

The band, completed by Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, recorded the album with producer Steve Lilywhite in London's RAK studios last summer.

Aerosmith to record 'old school' new album in 2011

Drummer Joey Kramer reveals 'my brothers and I are destined to make another record'

Aerosmith are going to record an "old school" new album next year.

In an interview with SpinnerMusic.co.uk, drummer Joey Kramer revealed that they are "going to do it the old way".

"Yeah, we're going to make an album," he said. "That would be very special. I would like to see a record within a year from the Aerosmith boys. My brothers and I are destined to make another record in the next year or so."

"It's going to be an old school Aerosmith record," he continued. "We're going to do it the old way with the whole band [in the same room] and it should be a good one. We're all anticipating."

Despite a turbulent past, which has included crisis talks to save the band from splitting, Kramer admits that the only thing that will stop them continuing as a group is if one of them dies.

"One of the things that's great about being in this band is that I never know what's going to happen next," he explained. "What you see in the mirror, is that really what you're going to get or not?"

He added: "Really, at this point in time, the only thing that's going to stop us is if someone out-and-out dies. Other than that, we've already been through what we've been through and stood the test of time. What else is there?"

Mumford And Sons to release 'live album'

Band making London gig available as part of new edition of debut album 'Sigh No More'

Mumford and Sons are set to release a live album as part of a new edition of debut 'Sigh No More'.

The band's shows at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in the spring will be available as a download record.

The live album, along with a DVD featuring three short films shot in India, America and Europe – with a link to the final part which is out in December – and a new song 'Hold On To What You Believe' will be sold as a physical "deluxe" version of the album through Mumfordandsons.com.

However, fans will be able to download the bonus content if they already have the album.

Peter, Bjorn and John to release 'pop rock album'

Peter, Bjorn and John have revealed that their upcoming new album will see them going back to their roots to release a "pop rock album".

Set for release in early 2011, the group's sixth studio effort is the follow up to 2009's 'Living Thing'.

"We originally planned to make a punk rock album," drummer John Eriksson told Spin. "But listening to it now it's definitely a pop rock album. But it sounds more punk rock when we play the songs live!"

"We've sort [of] gone back to the beginning," he continued. Adding that the songs have elements of new wave and power pop. "It's like Back To The Future!"

The album was produced by Per Sunding (The Cardigans), who Eriksson admitted was to blame for the band drinking in the studio and that even new song 'Tomorrow Has To Wait', is all about being drunk during recording sessions.

"We were more drunk this time," the drummer said. "We have to blame the producer for that. He made us drink more. A lot of the final cuts were the drunken versions."

Currently untitled, the group have been asking their fans to help them out with a name.

""We've been working on an album title for six months," Eriksson explained. "We've been asking our fans on Twitter, We have everything from 'Clever Pig' to 'Stupid Sock', which have been working titles. But it's not going to be called anything like that. We're working on it!"
